What Mike Has Accomplished
Four years of delivering for Cicero — here's what we've built together.
Talk is easy. Results take work. Since taking office, Mike Aregano has delivered real, measurable improvements for the people of Cicero — keeping taxes low, investing in public safety, and positioning our town for the opportunities ahead.
Park Improvements
When I first took office, I visited every town park to evaluate its condition and identify the improvements needed to better serve our residents. Since then, we have made significant investments throughout our park system to enhance recreational opportunities, improve safety, and create spaces our families can enjoy for years to come. In addition, we have set aside $250,000 for future park improvements to ensure our parks continue to meet the needs of our growing community.
Gateway Park – Bridgeport We installed new walking trails, planted several trees, and restored a softball field that had been unused for more than 10 years, bringing it back into service for the community.
Skyway Park – North Syracuse We replaced two ballfield infields with new sod and field mix, paved the parking lot, and in the fall of 2025 opened the Town of Cicero's first dog park. Councilor Becallo and I also restriped several park parking lots and sealed the walkways at Williams Park to improve safety and appearance.
Williams Park Through a successful grant application, we secured funding to install a new splash pad, giving local families another exciting recreational amenity to enjoy.
Plank Road Park – Brewerton We secured a $250,000 grant to build the Town of Cicero's first pickleball courts and install new volleyball courts, expanding recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.
Central Park – Cicero Working in partnership with National Grid, we installed new stadium lighting for the Cicero Pop Warner Football League. We also secured the donation of a new roof for the Little League concession stand, cleaned drainage swales throughout the park to improve water runoff, poured new concrete pads in several dugouts, and installed a new concrete pad in front of the baseball concession stand to improve accessibility and durability.
Our parks are an important part of what makes Cicero a great place to live. I will continue investing in our parks, pursuing grant opportunities, and improving recreational facilities so families, children, and residents of all ages can enjoy safe, modern, and well-maintained public spaces.
Brewerton Revitalization
When I took office in 2022, I began reviewing several long-standing projects that had been left unfinished. During my 21 years in law enforcement, we called them "cold cases"—important matters that had stalled and needed someone to take another look.
One of those projects was the Brewerton revitalization initiative, which began in 2008 under a former town supervisor, working alongside Chuck Dudzinski. Unfortunately, the project later stalled and remained unfinished for years.
My administration brought the project back to life. We worked with our town engineer, engaged the community through a public meeting, and got down to business. Shortly afterward, we held a groundbreaking ceremony, and approximately one year later, the project was completed.
We didn't just talk about revitalizing Brewerton—we delivered. Under my leadership, we invested in our community, completed a long-overdue project, and demonstrated what can be accomplished when people work together. I will continue making smart investments that strengthen every part of Cicero and move our town forward.
Since the completion of the Brewerton revitalization project, local businesses, residents, and volunteers have come together in an extraordinary way. Our businesses have been incredibly generous in supporting community improvements led by David and Melanie Eve, an amazing couple whose dedication has helped transform Brewerton and bring the community together like never before.
In the first year, local businesses joined together to decorate the new light poles with illuminated garland. The following spring, volunteers installed beautiful flower baskets along the streetscape. A dedicated group known as the "Bloom Crew" continues to water and care for the flowers throughout the summer, ensuring the area remains colorful, welcoming, and well maintained.
Today, whether you drive through Brewerton in the spring, summer, fall, or winter, you can see the difference. The community has been transformed into a beautiful and inviting place that reflects the pride, generosity, and hard work of the people who call Brewerton home. It is a community we are proud of and cherish every day.
Comprehensive Plan
One of my top priorities was ensuring that Cicero had a clear vision for responsible growth. The Town's Comprehensive Plan had not been updated since 2006, making it long overdue.
Working alongside Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, I secured a $170,000 grant to complete a new Comprehensive Plan without placing the financial burden on our taxpayers. We hired a professional planning firm and assembled a committee of 12 dedicated community members who met regularly to help shape the future of our town. Their input, along with feedback from residents, resulted in a Comprehensive Plan that reflects the values and priorities of our community.
When the plan was completed, we officially adopted it, along with new design standards that raised the expectations for future development in Cicero. Our message is clear: we welcome growth, but we expect quality. We are looking for A-grade projects that strengthen our economy, protect our neighborhoods, and enhance the quality of life for our residents—not just any development that comes along.
This Comprehensive Plan provides a roadmap for smart, responsible growth that will guide the Town of Cicero for years to come.
Bridgeport Community
When I first took office, one of my priorities was strengthening the Bridgeport community. I met with the Chairman of the Bridgeport–Lakeport Civic Organization and the Town Supervisor of Sullivan to discuss ways our municipalities could work together on projects that would benefit residents on both sides of the community.
One of our first collaborative efforts was launching the Bridgeport Banner Program, which proudly honors the men and women who have served our country in the military, as well as our local police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel. This project has become a source of pride for the entire community while recognizing those who have dedicated themselves to serving others.
We also worked closely with the New York State Department of Transportation to improve the appearance of the Bridgeport roundabout. Our goal has always been to create a welcoming gateway into the community, and landscape and aesthetic enhancements are expected to begin this year or early next year.
Looking ahead, public safety will continue to be a top priority. I am committed to assigning a dedicated police officer to the Bridgeport area to provide a greater law enforcement presence, strengthen relationships with residents and businesses, and help ensure Bridgeport remains a safe place to live, work, and visit.
Bridgeport deserves the same attention, investment, and commitment as every other part of our town, and I will continue working to make that happen.
Community Pride
In 2022, when I first took office, we organized the largest Earth Day the Town of Cicero had seen in years. Residents, volunteers, and community members came together to clean up our parks, roadsides, and public spaces — a true reflection of the pride our community has in keeping Cicero beautiful.
I also had a flagpole installed at Central Park, placed in the center of the field, honoring those who have served our country. It stands as a permanent tribute to the men and women whose sacrifice and dedication have made our community and our nation what it is today.
Grants
Over the last four years, we secured several grants and put them to good use within the town — helping keep taxes down while investing in the infrastructure and amenities our residents deserve.
